ERROR on 1995 D Roosevelt Dime?
Slightly smaller, no ridges on edge(smooth), but also interesting is it is inset and the edge rises higher uniformly around. Can anyone tell me what kind of error this is, if any?
Though it may be an error in this single production it is most likely not important. Many collectors see rare coins as very serious typos in the coin, such as a double headed eagle, or a larger(or rarely, smalller) "D" or "P" or "S" from the mint. Unfortunately, something like what you have would be very easy to forge and therefore could not be considered a rare coin. I have read several books on different coins and the weirdest "rare" coin I have seen is that of a penny, i believe, in which lincoln's head was abnormally and noticeably larger than most coins. I have seen a penny or two with no ridges, and I did not need to look it up because I knew it was not anything. The edge rising higher, I wouldn't think it would be anything, and again I have not seen or heard of anything like that being of value. sorry if this doesn't help. Lastly, I would like to add for the first that answered, that it very unlikely that someone would counterfeit a dime. It's just unheard of. The people that would do it would get no money out of it. And that is the sole purpose to counterfeit. The most counterfeited coin in U.S currency is probably the Morgan dollar or maybe the flying eagle cent. But it's just not a business to counterfeit coins, unless they are truly valuable and I know for certain that your dime would not be. Paper backs are a different story. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to rant. You should try a couple books and if they don't say anything and you're still determined to find if you got lucky, go to a couple sights and post your find. They find odd coins every once in awhile. Good luck, and again, I hope this helps.
